MOHEBAN RUG GALLERY, NYC

The border of the rug and the pattern of the field symbolize the relation between finite and infinite, between the world we know and whatever may lie, invisible to us, beyond it. Similarly, the wooden floor is limited by a steel border, whereas columns and walls reflect the same theme in a three dimensional way. The colored pIaster columns define an inner space. laquered wooden wall both limits and opens the space like a mirror.
Two central guilded columns embody the dualism immanent in all elements - the square inside the circle merging into a new, superior form. The ceiling is created to render the impression of a dark blue sky. An abundant number of light fixtures represent the spiral dynamics of stars above a static space.
The rising sun in the east, connecting earth and sky, is the focal point of live - transformed into a seating area.
